Alternatively, turn left from The Crown back to the roundabout, turn left along Upper Shirley Road and immediately left again into Shirley Church Road with the Lychgate entrance on your left.

Enthusiastic walkers may prefer to arrive at St. Johns by a scenic route, stopping at the Sandrock pub at the corner of Upper Shirley Road with Sandpits Road for their lunch.
At East Croydon Station take the Tramlink Route 3 towards New Addington, and alight after four stops at Coombe Lane.
Walk down the Addington Hills, with their excellent views, towards the junction of Oaks Road with Upper Shirley Road where the Sandrock pub is on the opposite corner with Sandpits Road.
After refreshments, walk to the end of Sandpits Road, where a footpath past the school leads to the Shirley Church Road near St Johns.
